How to Maximize Savings with East Greenwich, RI Cremations

Like everywhere else in the country, East Greenwich, RI cremations have increased significantly in popularity over the course of the last two decades. There are a variety of reasons for this, but the biggest reason is for the financial savings that cremations can offer in comparison to a traditional funeral service. By choosing cremation, families can avoid some or all traditional funeral expenses and save quite a bit of money on services that still honor their loved one with respect.

A direct cremation is the least expensive kind of cremation service. A direct cremation takes place very shortly after the passing of the deceased and before any funeral or memorial service occurs. This procedure allows families to avoid the traditional funeral expenses, because the only cost that would need to be paid for, aside from some minor administrative fees, is that of the cremation itself. There’s no need for a casket, a burial plot, embalming, and other such services, with can really add up in cost.

To ensure the safety of consumers, the Federal Trade Commission has three broad rules in place that govern direct cremations.

  1. The funeral home or crematory can’t force clients to purchase a casket for the procedure.
  2. A simple, inexpensive wooden box needs to be made available to contain the body for the cremation.
  3. The remains of the deceased need to be returned to the family in the vessel of their choice, if provided. If no such vessel is provided, the remains will usually be returned in a cardboard box.

Direct cremation still offers families a lot of flexibility in deciding their funeral plans. After the process takes place, it is still possible for families to have a memorial service. The flexibility is often enticing as families can do whatever they’d like in that way. For example, family and friends can gather in a place that was special to the deceased and then spread his or her ashes there after a moving ceremony. They can have a memorial service in a church, at the funeral home, or even in someone’s home. The options are endless and depend completely on what the family wants and needs to say their final goodbye.

With significant financial savings and these customization options, it shouldn’t be surprising that cremations in general, and direct cremations in particular have increased in popularity by such significance.
